I’m a software leader with deep experience in design and development of software for the audio processing and music production space. Building software that inspires creativity in artists has been my mission and profession for decades, the last 10 of which I served as CTO of Cakewalk, one of the world’s leading music software companies. An architect and developer on every version of SONAR since its inception, I have industry leading experience with real-time audio processing, DAW’s and plugins, audio standards and frameworks, multiprocessing and cloud integration. At prior jobs with leading software companies, I worked on desktop graphics, animation, video post-production, enterprise software development and was also an author and contributor to the WINE project. Within the multimedia community, I’ve worked closely with partners like Microsoft and Intel to further the evolution of multimedia standards and API’s, published several articles on performance optimization and benefits of CPU architectures and Windows operating systems, and actively contributed to industry standards for audio and plug-in processing.
An avid jazz guitarist, music has been a driving force in my life. I started playing the guitar at age ten and developed a deep interest in jazz performance as a teenager, initially following pioneering fusion groups like Mahavishnu and Return To Forever, and pursuing studies of Indian music for a brief period. I soon got drawn to jazz guitarists such as Pat Martino and Joe Pass as well as the music of John Coltrane, and immersed myself in the study of bebop, and other jazz styles. I performed with prominent local artists in my late teens, and led a jazz trio, taught guitar privately and conducted jazz workshops. My first album release ‘Sound Matters’ in 1991, was one of the first modern jazz albums released in India. I’ve produced and played on two other CD releases “A New Leaf” and “One Of Us” by jazz pianist/composer Ramona Borthwick, the latter of which was reviewed in DownBeat magazine’s Hot Box. I continue to practice, study and play jazz today.
