{"id":4518,"date":"2010-04-23T10:59:07","date_gmt":"2010-04-23T14:59:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/?p=4518"},"modified":"2010-04-23T10:59:07","modified_gmt":"2010-04-23T14:59:07","slug":"a-wicked-good-time-for-musicares-foundation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/2010\/04\/23\/a-wicked-good-time-for-musicares-foundation\/","title":{"rendered":"A Wicked Good Time for MusiCares Foundation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For those of\u00a0you who\u00a0couldn&#8217;t make it\u00a0out to\u00a0our first annual Cakewalk fundraiser, you missed\u00a0a great night.\u00a0Throughout the evening, Cakewalk employees took the stage\u00a0at the Lansdowne Pub (right next\u00a0door to historic Fenway Park)\u00a0to\u00a0show off their talents.<\/p>\n<ul><a href=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/Mike-FM.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-4532\" title=\"Mike FM\" src=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/Mike-FM-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Mike FM\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/ul>\n<p>Boston\u2019s 93.7 Mike FM was the MC for the night, bringing with them a bundle of awesome prizes for the raffle\u00a0and\u00a0giving\u00a0away free stickers and tees. One lucky\u00a0raffle winner won\u00a0the grand prize featuring Cakewalk&#8217;s V-Studio 100 portable music studio, a Fender Stratocaster\u2122 with a face plate signed by Blink 182, and Shure headphones. Here\u2019s a brief rundown of the night:<\/p>\n<ul><a href=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/magnolia.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-4533\" title=\"magnolia\" src=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/magnolia-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"magnolia\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/ul>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.myspace.com\/magnoliaonline\" target=\"_blank\">Magnolia<\/a><\/strong> killed the opening set as Cakewalk Graphic Designer Dan Kaplan rocked out with his six-piece and bandana. With influences ranging from traditional folk music and Americana to the more contemporary indie rock and pop \u2013 Magnolia has a refreshing, unique sound of their own. Be sure to check out their virtual CD release party on June 11, 2010.<\/p>\n<ul><a href=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/baby-made-rebel.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-4534\" title=\"baby made rebel\" src=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/baby-made-rebel-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"baby made rebel\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/ul>\n<p>Cakewalk Quality Assurance Rep Josh Langberg\u2019s band,<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/babymaderebel?v=info\" target=\"_blank\"><em> Baby Made Rebel<\/em><\/a><\/strong> really turned up the volume in the next set, delivering a stellar\u00a0performance. Cakewalk Tech Support Rep David Guerette also made a cameo appearance on the tenor sax for a few songs.<\/p>\n<ul><a href=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/Los-Sugar-Kings.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-4535\" title=\"Los Sugar Kings\" src=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/Los-Sugar-Kings-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Los Sugar Kings\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/ul>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lossugarkings.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Los Sugar Kings<\/a><\/strong> with Cakewalk Director of Education Dan Abreu had everyone in the crowd clapping along to their Latin inspired beats. They also gave free dance lessons! Dan showed off his amazing musicianship, switching between sax and keyboards, during the set.<\/p>\n<ul><a href=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/lunchbox2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-4538\" title=\"lunchbox2\" src=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/lunchbox2-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"lunchbox2\" width=\"178\" height=\"148\" \/><\/a><\/ul>\n<p>Even with a man down, the cover band <strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/home.php#!\/pages\/Lunch-Box\/181805227976\" target=\"_blank\">Lunchbox<\/a> <\/em><\/strong>couldn\u2019t be stopped. Cakewalk Account Manager Zac Kenney took on guitar parts intended for 2, played them blindfolded with his hands behind his back, and still made it look cool. Cakewalk\u00a0International Account Manager Matt Koelsch wowed everyone with his vocals throughout the set; he even managed to out-Zeppelin Robert Plant when they covered \u201cGood Times Bad Times.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul><a href=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/DJ-Scotty-Steel.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-4539\" title=\"DJ Scotty Steel\" src=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/DJ-Scotty-Steel-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"DJ Scotty Steel\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/ul>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dj-scott.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">DJ Scotty Steel<\/a><\/strong> kept us all energized through 1:00am spinning hits from the 80\u2019s, 90\u2019s and more.<\/p>\n<ul><a href=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/DJ-Josh.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-4540\" title=\"DJ Josh\" src=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/DJ-Josh-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"DJ Josh\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/ul>\n<p><strong><a href=\" http:\/\/www.nauzeeaun.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">DJ Josh<\/a><\/strong> closed it up with a chest pounding mix of electro, IDM, and EBM to keep the glow sticks moving until the lights started flashing and the bartenders finally kicked us out.<\/p>\n<p>All joking aside, it was an amazing night with plenty of great tunes and whole lot of fun!<\/p>\n<p><strong>In total we earned over $800 for the MusiCares Foundation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The money<strong> <\/strong>which will go towards their first annual Grassroots Giving Campaign and it\u2019ll provide critical care and services to musicians worldwide.\u00a0 Here\u2019s\u00a0how a few dollars donated to MusiCares could help musicians in need:<\/p>\n<p>$25 Buys groceries for an elderly or disabled artist on a fixed income<br \/>\n$50 Pays part of a gas bill for a client recovering from carpal tunnel syndrome<br \/>\n$100 Pays for a month of medication for an uninsured diabetic client<br \/>\n$150 Provides a basic dental exam, cleaning and X-rays for a horn player without insurance<br \/>\n$500 Provides a vocal examination and rehabilitative treatment for a singer with polyps on her vocal folds<\/p>\n<p>Thank you to all who helped make this event a huge success!
