In full disclosure; I\u2019m a lousy keyboardist. The jamstik+ and Bluetooth MIDI\u2019s availability for Windows 10 has revolutionized what used to be a point-and-click endeavor. Now I can use virtual instruments in Cakewalk\u2019s SONAR software controlled by the <\/span><b>jamstik+ digital guitar <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">so I can enter in data wirelessly<\/span><b> via <\/b><b>Bluetooth MIDI<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; using the guitar skills that come most naturally to me.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_25594\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-25594\" style=\"width: 590px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_5200.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-25594\" src=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_5200-300x167.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"590\" height=\"328\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-25594\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tracking MIDI with the jamstik+ in SONAR Platinum<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3><b>Jamstik+ &amp; SONAR Platinum is a killer combo for the studio.<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A hit with pro and amateur musicians, the jamstik feels like a traditional guitar neck and works with your favorite MIDI apps and DAWs. \u00a0Music notation, composition or accompaniment is easy with the<\/span> Jamstik+ and Sonar Platinum Edition.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The jamstik+ is a great MIDI controller, and my favorite bundled virtual instruments in SONAR are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Strum Session 2<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: This was an added bonus I did not expect, a built-in guitar modeller! Overall, I\u2019m very impressed with the simple UI. There\u2019s a plethora of modifiers to make your own presets with, and even a chord-finder as an added benefit. Make sure to take a listen to the short track I made featuring the \u201cacoustic\u201d preset (video is at the top of the blog post).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_25596\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-25596\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_5198.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-25596\" src=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/IMG_5198-300x169.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-25596\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Using Strum Session&#8217;s Chord Finder with the jamstik+<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Cakewalk Sound Center<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: This Soft-Synth includes a nice variety of tones. \u00a0There is a limit to what parameters you can tweak for each sound, but most of these sounds are good right off the bat. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>SI-Drumkit<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: It\u2019s always nice to have a good drum library to use! (especially for rock tunes). I\u2019ve spent a lot of time making drum grooves with the jamstik using various plug-ins. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/BK3d52Tg5Cc\/?taken-by=thejamstik\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Playing the kick\/snare using a flat-pick is great fun<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">! \u00a0Learn more about <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=QdkG6AJCtjM\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">playing drums on the jamstik here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Make Sure Your PC is Bluetooth 4.0 Compatible.<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With recent updates in the Windows 10 OS, SONAR\u2019s DAW takes advantage of using<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/winaero.com\/blog\/how-to-check-if-your-pc-supports-bluetooth-4-0\/\"><b>Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy (BLE)<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to connect Bluetooth enabled MIDI devices. Now, almost all operating systems have this capability, so the performance is only going to get better from here, and more controllers will start <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/roli.com\/products\/seaboard-rise\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cRoli\u201d<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2018ing in<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (haha). Check the specs on your PC (look for Bluetooth in Device Manager) to see if your PC is Bluetooth 4.0 compatible. If not, you can always<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/ASUS-USB-Adapter-Bluetooth-USB-BT400\/dp\/B00DJ83070\"><b>try various BLE Dongles like this one by Asus<\/b><\/a><b>.<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><b>Connecting is easy<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pair to Windows 10<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Open SONAR<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enable your MIDI Device In\/Out Check-boxes in Preferences<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Select your Soft-Synth<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Play!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><b>Use the PUC+ To Connect Other MIDI Controllers via Bluetooth<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I should also mention if you\u2019re looking to connect an existing MIDI keyboard, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mipuc.com\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">check out the PUC+ Wireless MIDI<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> interface.
