\"\"<\/a>Windows 10 is here, and our trusted code-commanders have been working closely with Microsoft to ensure an enhanced experience for our valued Cakewalk community.\u00a0 Our benchmark testing has shown the new operating system to be very efficient with a lighter footprint.\u00a0 In general, Windows 10 has outperformed Windows 8 in all of our tests in terms of performance and efficiency.\u00a0 Subjectively speaking, the \u201clook and feel\u201d of this free upgrade is a much welcomed improvement over the \u201cMetro\u201d landscape of the previous operating system.\u00a0 But what does this mean for music creators?<\/p>\n

1.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 More responsive:<\/strong> Out of the gate people will notice a much snappier operating system.\u00a0 The tweaks Microsoft made to the kernel and other parts of the OS in general have given it a responsive overhaul.<\/p>\n

2.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Upgrade ease:<\/strong>\u00a0 Moving into Windows 10 is a very quick and easy upgrade.<\/p>\n

3.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Unified OS:<\/strong>\u00a0 The best elements of Win 7, Win 8, and Win 8.1 have been combined into a streamlined experience with Win 10.\u00a0 Store Apps and Desktop Apps seamlessly run side by side for a smooth universal experience.<\/p>\n

4.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 New MIDI API available across all devices:<\/strong>\u00a0 The new API allows multi-client access to single MIDI hardware and new jitter-free operation.\u00a0 Microsoft worked hard on bringing this all together for better MIDI implementation.<\/p>\n

5.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Enhancements to the kernel:<\/strong> Microsoft has made changes in the multimedia scheduler and kernel components to minimize spikes \u2013 this can make a big difference in low-latency streaming apps like SONAR.<\/p>\n

6.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 FLAC and ALAC Support:<\/strong>\u00a0 Windows 10 has native support for these two codecs.\u00a0 Both \u201cApple Lossless Audio Codec\u201d and FLAC\u00a0 could mean great things for Windows audio moving forward.<\/p>\n

7.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Much faster boot-time: <\/strong>\u00a0A lower footprint in memory combined with some new optimization techniques will get you up and running and making music faster than ever.<\/p>\n

8.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Runs smoother on older machines:<\/strong>\u00a0 The lower memory footprint and optimization tweaks will also allow Win 10 to run more efficiently on older machines.\u00a0 This is great news for Wn 7 users who never upgraded to Win 8.<\/p>\n

9.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Lower Latency:<\/strong>\u00a0 15ms lower roundtrip latency using WASAPI (shared mode).<\/p>\n

10.) \u00a0Core isolation:<\/strong> Drivers and applications can now isolate and dedicate low latency audio processing to a single CPU core. \u00a0This can minimize the effect of DPC latency spiking from networking, Bluetooth, or other DPC spiking processes by preventing interruptions to audio processing.<\/p>\n
