As a mix engineer myself I tend to stack up on mix buses to make it easier to control multi-mic&#8217;d instruments or groups of tracks.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Mix-Recall-Header-Blog-Post.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-20827\" title=\"Mix Recall Header Blog Post\" src=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Mix-Recall-Header-Blog-Post.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"516\" height=\"291\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div align=\"center\"><\/div>\n<p>As of SONAR X3, experimenting with different types of bus processing is somewhat cumbersome due to a lack of useful A\/B switching mechanisms. Mix Recall changes that in the newest version.\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">Elevating your workflow is what SONAR is here for, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cakewalk.com\/Products\/SONAR\/Versions\">SONAR Artist<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cakewalk.com\/Products\/SONAR\/Versions\">Professional<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cakewalk.com\/Products\/SONAR\/Versions\">Platinum<\/a> now offer a goldmine of mixing workflows.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/mixrecallgif6.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-20891\" title=\"mixrecallgif6\" src=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/mixrecallgif6.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"538\" height=\"302\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>When you first open up Mix Recall make sure to save your project &#8211; or else all of the buttons will be inactive.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Mix-Recall-Module.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20832\" title=\"Mix Recall Module\" src=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Mix-Recall-Module.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"422\" height=\"82\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Grab the mix you&#8217;re working on and go the Master Bus and select it. Here&#8217;s a mix that I&#8217;ve been working on for a bit. This song has all different kinds of drums, synths, and other instruments. Save Scene\u2002B. Save As New Scene\u2002C. Recall Previous Scene\u2002D. Mix Recall menu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mix Recall has a bunch of little under-the-hood tweaks that can be made. To use it in this capacity &#8211; I&#8217;ll show you how I have mine setup.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">Click on the dropdown menu and go to Mix Recall settings. You can access this menu quicker by right-clicking on the Recall Previous Scene button.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">Uncheck the Automation and click the Advanced button &#8211; Since we&#8217;re not switching any automation around it&#8217;s redundant to use this.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">Select Track\/Bus Selection &#8211; <strong>This will set Mix Recall to change tracks and buses that are selected only<\/strong>, instead of the whole project.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">Next, go to the new Mix Recall module and click on the button to right of the camera, this is the Save As New Scene button. Name this first mix it\u00a0<\/span><em style=\"font-size: 13px;\">No Compression\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Mix-Recall-settings.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-20854\" title=\"Mix Recall settings\" src=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Mix-Recall-settings.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"331\" height=\"286\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Where the magic happens<\/h3>\n<p>Fly in your favorite compressor on the master bus and adjust it to where you like it.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Bus-Compressor.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-20844\" title=\"Bus Compressor\" src=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Bus-Compressor.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"270\" height=\"236\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div align=\"center\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">Then, click the <em>Save as New Mix Scene<\/em> button. A prompt will appear. I named mine\u00a0<em>ProChannel Bus Compression.<\/em><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><\/div>\n<div align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/ProChannel-Bus-Compression.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-20848\" title=\"ProChannel Bus Compression\" src=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/ProChannel-Bus-Compression.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"590\" height=\"332\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>After that, fly in your favorite Nomad Factory compressor via an FX Chain Module. I&#8217;ve got mine setup with knobs assigned and what not for the FA-770. Deactivate the previous compressor and save this one as a new scene. I saved this as FA 770 Vari Mu.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/FA770.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-20846\" title=\"FA770\" src=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/FA770.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"411\" height=\"168\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Afterwards, maybe instead of a bus compressor &#8211; we&#8217;ll choose to use the ProChannel U-Type Compressor. Right-click on the header of the Bus Compressor and\u00a0<em>Replace\u00a0<\/em>it with the U-Type compressor.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Utype.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-20850\" title=\"Utype\" src=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Utype.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"305\" height=\"215\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Make sure your Master bus is selected, hit play, and use the drop down menu to A\/B the different compressors. Quite useful right? Your modules will switch out with only a moment of silence between each compressor.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Switchingscenes.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-20851\" title=\"Switchingscenes\" src=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Switchingscenes.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"322\" height=\"366\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>SONAR takes it a step further and adds one last cherry on top with Mix Recall. Go to File &gt; Export &gt; Audio and select Mix Recall from the Source.
