This technique is also used as a method for getting bass and drum passages to subtly fit together in mixes. In order to successfully apply ducking to your track you must have the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Compressor inserted on a pad or lead track with side-chain capabilities<\/li>\n<li>Percussive source to key the side-chain<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Basic-Side-Chaining.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-11565 alignleft\" title=\"Basic Side Chaining\" src=\"https:\/\/noelborthwick.com\/cakewalk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/Basic-Side-Chaining.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"254\" height=\"293\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">First, grab a kick drum sample and align it to the desirable rhythm you need. \u00a0Next, insert a compressor onto your synth lead or pad track. \u00a0Afterwards insert a send on the sampled kick drum track and set the send to \u201cPre-fader\u201d.
